High Gas Prices Have Little Affect on Nascar Diecast Collectibles

According to an article written by Van Cox for Nascar.com, the $4 gas prices that the United States experienced the last couple of months had little affect on the price of nascar diecast collectibles. Here is a excerpt from the article written on September 8, 2008:
With the price of gasoline eclipsing $4 per gallon, people from every walk of life — race fans included — are turning a more scrutinous eye toward their disposable incomes.
And let’s face it, racing memorabilia doesn’t come close to making the short list of things we can’t live without. But even in today’s tenuous economy, NASCAR collectibles — die-cast replicas in particular — are proving to be a constant. In fact, in most cases, there have been only minimal price increases over the past decade.
I’m not paying that much more for NASCAR collectibles today than I was 10-12 years ago,” reflects longtime die-cast collector Bill Kress. “In some cases, I’m probably paying less because there is more stuff available. More people are selling on the internet. Dealers are offering better deals on cars that are outdated. And I think, compared to everything else in the world, manufacturers have done a pretty good job of keeping the prices of die-cast down.”
They certainly have. Mark Dyer, president and CEO of Motorsports Authentics, confirms that the pricing of Action die-cast hasn’t changed all that much in recent years.
“Our Action Racing Collectibles 1:24 scale car typically sells for around $65-70,” Dyer notes. “Ten years ago, that same car was somewhere in the $50-60 range. So, if you annualize that over the past decade, there really hasn’t been much of an increase at all.”
